a wash

wind & waves today
ate away
with eager sand
teeth these

sad juts of
sharp edges

from the shells
of my everyday
selves

a baptism
of beach

black cobbles
count each
gull shriek

each prayer
loosed from
its mooring &
washed

wavering through
grey mists &
opalescent air

find me fresh
intent in long
saline washes

of agate coast
& its waves ripped

from an ocean
too cold
too wild
to cower in

seawater

see water
redraw lines
i was sure
there was

shore

sea brine
breaths shiver
down my throat

taunt a
mountain-muted
tongue tucked
too long in

dry valleys

should've
left myself
by the sea

shipwrecked
without
any qualms

landlocked

caught & roll
in too many wrong

riptides

gotta get
a breath
of beach &
a breadth
of better lungs

this heart-
beat's
breakers

in driftwood
bones

& saltwater
swims
through
these veins

stuff your
pockets
with poems

& let's swim
until the
shoreline

disappears
